[CTCVISTA] Tax Information (non-official)

Categories:

Hi All,

It's the New Year which means that taxes may be on your mind. Here's
some quick (unofficial) points:

#1) YES, you must file! Even though we're poor, the tax man still
cometh. That means filing for both state and federal taxes.

#2) You may get a refund. If you had any federal withholdings, you'll
probably get some back. But your STATE TAXES ARE NOT WITHHELD. Some
states have a minimum income for taxes, but you still must file.

#3) You may be able to file electronically for FREE:
http://statetaxfreedom.com . This is Intuit's free filing for people
with income less than $25k. Be very careful though, because it is
FREE if you only choose certain options and they will try to add
additional "extras" that you probably don't need.

#4) Earned Income Tax credit information will be coming shortly. You
may be eligible.

#5) Your W-2 forms should be coming shortly as well.

None of the above information should be construed as legal/financial
advice, but that's my knowledge from two years of VISTA.
