Personal Space on the Web

Categories:
  • non ctcvista activities
  • pso

With Thursday afternoon's emphasis on various web services (flickr, del.icio.us, blip.tv), and with discussions of our public presentation as VISTA members, I've been thinking about the combination: presenting ourselves as VISTA members on internet social networks. Having come from student life, I'm not used to being professional, and one of the things I know I'll be learning as I begin service this fall is how to seperate my personal life from my work. I know I'll be thinking twice as I post and tag—on flickr, blip.tv, and here on this blog—about what I'll tag "CTCVISTA" how much VISTA-related content I'll post to my previously established personal spaces.

Speaking of non-VISTA related content, I mentioned a movie I made to a few people. It's called Room Cleaning.

So....what is it????

My name is Tony O'Rourke. I come from a small town in south central Wisconsin called Mauston. I grew up outside of town on a small dairy farm. I just graduated with a degree in Technology Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. I decided to take a position as a CTC Vista. I will be working at The Boys and Girls Club of Tempe. I am very excited to work with the students and with the media and hopefully enriched some of the students lives in the process.

I hope to get to do some exploring in Arizona while I am there. I am interested in motorcycling, snowboarding, technology, and I guess I have to wrap this up...more useful information to come. :-)

HI!

I am in Boston for the first time for the CTC VISTA PSO. It's beautiful here!

I am from Jackson, Tennessee (a small city between Nashville and Memphis) which is also where I will be serving.  On Monday, September 11,  I will start my service as a CTC VISTA at the STAR Center. The STAR Center serves people with disabilties and has a large scope of services.  They do everything from teaching people with disabilities how to use computers to personal assistance in private households.  My job title as a CTC VISTA is "Volunteer Coordinator".  I will be responsible for recruiting in-house volunteers for an adult literacy lab and other various things.  I will also be recruiting volunteers for fund-raising and other large, once-yearly events.  During my "spare time" (ha! ha!) I will be helping to establish a loan program for all different types of assistive technology.

The PSO has been great so far, and I am really looking forward to my year of service!

i a feeling mighty unreflective, but that is what happens sometimes in new places. however, i am looking forward to moving to san francisco and starting at the homeless prenatal program. after the first day of this training, it excites me that i will have much to learn technologically speaking. welcome to the new blog and hello san francisco (although this picture is a bit of posh SF--it was all that i could find).

PSO Fun

Hello Hello!
So here I am at the PSO, finally finding out more about this whole CTC business. So far so good...they've feed me lots of delicious sandwiches and I'm getting jazzed about open source, podcasting, and all sorts of other fun tech stuff.

Hmmm...A little about me. I'm from Puyallup, Washington, a little city south of Seattle best known for the Puyallup Fair. (Think rodeo, carnival rides, and onion burgers.) I just graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in journalism, and I'm super stoked to start work next week at the Center for Digital Storytelling in Berkeley. Woohoo! California here I come. I'll be driving down the West Coast this weekend with my trusty travel companion Ethel, the 1988 Plymouth Reliant.

At PSO...first blog

Categories:

  • pso

So, as I slowly reach maximum saturation of information, I am asked to throw down some words as my first blog entry.

Loving PSO, getting lots of information and beginning some great friendships. I'm really hoping that some  interaction and information can be shared through this site, as I forsee the need for contact out there once I recede into isolation... all alone in the DC metro. My nephew in an elmo outfit

So, details...I'm Carl Seifert. A cajun from Louisiana, now a resident of Arlington, Virginia, I got connected with a great CTC in Alexandria (literally across the street from Arlington) and started teaching adult computer literacy classes to out mainly immigrant clientel.  After a while, the relationship was such that they wanted me hired on full time, but didnt have the money to pay me, soooo enter CTC Americorp VISTA project.  Now, i'm going to be serving in a new capacity to increase our organization's ability to keep up with our students.  During my tenure, I am charged with creating a way to not lose track of our students, some of whom lack consistent phone lines. This is in order to help with fundraising and increase our capacity to continue to serve the community even after their courses at Computer C.O.R.E.

I think this is all for now, but hopefully I'll keep up with the blogging and there will be lots of interaction between all of us.

We havnt been apart this long for the two years we have been together. i dont know what else to say except i had a good ham and cheese sandwhich for lunch today.

First entry for my first blog

Categories:
  • pso

Well, here I am. Pre-service Orientation for the CTC VISTA Project. Since I'm so great at coming up with things on the spot (not), I'll keep it short. I'm excited to start my VISTA position at Pangea Foundation in San Diego, but all of this technology stuff is kind of overwhelming. I have limited knowledge of the whole computer word (aka basic skills to be able to use a computer), so I anticipate learning a lot in that field during the course of the year in addition to my VISTA experience as a whole. I promise to be more exciting next time when I'm actually prepared to do this.

 Later,

Laura

New Beginning

Categories:
  • fundraising
  • marketing
  • technological

Glazing over at most of the discussions due to the fact that they are very tech specific, and I am not. I am fundraising and marketing for my organization and have no clue regarding computer parts, software, etc. My idea of computer maintenance and upkeep is taking it to my computer repair guys and saying "here - fix it" and they do. I don't know what they do, how they do it and prefer to keep it that way. I am not a computer tech minded person, I come from a strong social work background and not technological, but this is a new beginning and I have much to learn. I guess I will have to learn how to "glaze over" less.

Hello, I'm Matthew Isaacs.  I'm a new CTC Vista.  I'll be working for CUWiN (http://www.cuwireless.net) on community wireless networks.  My background is varied; in regards to computer/information technology I've been involved in everything from system/network administration, to research, to programming.  I recently graduated with a B.A. in Math and Computer Science from Berea College (http://www.berea.edu) in Berea, KY.

First Entry... EVER

This is the first official blog that I have ever written, very exciting. I've been here in Boston for nearly 24 hours (another first) for the Pre-Service Orientation. It's been great-- great cruisin', great people, great sight seeing (following the Red Line, you know who you are) and, of course, great blogging. When I leave here tomorrow I will return to San Diego, CA where I was born and raised and will also be serving, although an hour or so away from home. Laura Hanley and I will be living and serving together at a non-profit called Pangea Foundation. The specifics of our duties are still under construction but I'm definitely excited for the possibilities! I'm looking forward to meeting other Vistas in the area and maybe even doing some "social networking" which has gotten a lot of discussion time at the PSO. All in all, PSO has been awesome, and I think this year will be a great adventure :)
